Why this comparison matters

Strategy is rarely a game.

Games motivate. They prompt engagement, experimentation and reflection. They also risk oversimplifying what leadership actually feels like.

Strategy is ambiguous, political, constrained by money and made under pressure. If the simulation does not reflect that, the rehearsal will not prepare you.

Gamified leadership training

Great for reflection, thin on business.

Behavioural learning first is a valid choice. It often abstracts away financial trade-offs, organisational constraints and longer-term knock-on effects.

That can work for individual reflection. For team rehearsal it is not enough.

The Strategy Quest approach

The interdependencies are built in.

When your team makes a bet, the consequences show up across rounds: budget gets used, options fade, stakeholders shift their position. Internal politics are part of the simulation too.

It feels less like a workshop and more like a boardroom under time pressure.

What teams take away

No transfer needed.

Shared language, a clear memory of their mistakes and stronger alignment. There is no need to translate the learning back to the day job: they have already been doing it.

Common questions

What is a business strategy simulation?

A safe rehearsal of a real strategic decision. Participants step into a living organisation, work with the people in it, make choices and see the consequences play out over several rounds, instead of reading about them in a case study.

How does Strategy Quest work?

A facilitator builds an organisation in about 20 minutes: its market, its numbers and an executive team of AI stakeholders, each with a role, an agenda and a memory. Participants get a mandate, email those stakeholders, gather information, build support and submit a strategy. The executive team reacts to it, and the next round starts from where they left it.

Who is it for?

Consultancies that want to rehearse an engagement, in-house strategy and transformation teams, leadership programmes and business schools. Anyone who has to make a high-stakes call with incomplete information and other people who disagree.

How long does a session take?

You decide. A single quest fits in a two to three hour session, and a series can run over several weekly rounds. Workshops, offsites and multi-week programmes all work.

Can it simulate our own challenge?

Yes. Start from a new organisation in a real market, build one from scratch, or base it on a specific organisation. The people inside the simulation are always fictional.

Does it work for remote teams?

Yes. Everything runs in the browser, so participants can play from anywhere, alone or in teams.

How do participants get feedback?

Every submission gets a reaction from the executive team, and the facilitator sees decisions, conversations and scores as they happen. That gives the debrief real material to work with instead of opinions.
